Julie Pfitzinger

Presenter:

“Telling Your Story: The First Keystroke to the Final Product”

Julie Pfitzinger has been a writer, columnist and editor for more than 25 years. She began her career with a community newspaper in St. Paul and has written for publications including the Star Tribune, Minnesota Parent, Family Times, the Catholic Spirit and more. She spent several years in the magazine industry as a staff writer, editor and then managing editor for Tiger Oak Media, which was home to nine community lifestyle magazines, including Saint Paul Magazine, Edina Magazine and White Bear Lake Magazine.

For the past six years, Julie has been with Next Avenue, a digital publication of PBS for readers 50 and older that is based at Twin Cities PBS in Lowertown in St. Paul. She is the Managing Editor and Senior Editor for the Living Channel.

Pfitzinger is also the founder and CEO of Paris Morning Publications, a boutique publishing company with a focus on poetry and memoir. Launched in 2019, Paris Morning Publications has published books by Klecko and Thomas R. Smith, as well as an anthology of bird poetry featuring poets from across Minnesota and beyond.

Regarding her presentation, Julie says “If you have a story to tell, it will be your job to bring your topic of choice into the light of day for others to see, read and understand. It is the editor’s job to occasionally prod, polish and help you reach that goal. Whether you are writing a nonfiction article or a memoir, the process really isn’t that different.”

Julie will cover topics such as how to identify your audience, connecting with readers and working on drafts and revisions. “The most important part of this pursuit,” she said, “is finding your voice.”

“How can your editor help and encourage you along the way? I’ll share favorite writing examples and suggestions based on experiences I’ve had both as an editor and as a writer.” She can be reached at editor@parismorningpublications.com
